DARKNESS WELCOMES YOU
I created this image with a specific tone that is meant to be dark, moody and a bit eerie, along with a slight ‘goose bump’ effect on the surface. Both are designed to create a physiological emotion.
The term ‘goose bumps’ derives from the look of goose skin after it has been plucked. Once the feathers have been plucked, the skin becomes very pronounced with protrusions of where the feather follicles were just under the epidermis skin layer and this is what the human phenomena resembles.
From a human experience, ‘goose bumps’ are one of many physiological triggers that are the result of different thoughts, emotions or environmental conditions we experience, like fear, euphoria and arousal. When specific chemicals flood the body, one of these physiological effects are tiny muscles at the base of our hair follicles contract, this makes the hair follicle straight and makes the hair stand upright. Examples of what gives us goose bumps or makes our hairs stand on end are when we think of a dear loved one or hear a certain song, when we feel a strong and sudden change in emotion, like seeing something creepy or being frightened.
I don’t wish to scare you with my creation, but at least you have an idea behind the thought process of this creation and what the term goose bumps mean now.
