A gene pool is a collection of genes or cells contained within a certain area. Our body is the ultimate example of a gene pool with cells numbering into the billions, all contained by our three layers of skin – the epidermis, the outermost layer of skin provides a waterproof barrier as well as our skin tone and texture. The dermis which is beneath the epidermis and contains tough connective tissue, hair follicles and sweat glands, and the subcutaneous (or hypodermis), which is made of fat and deeper connective tissue.
